What we don't like is work that bores the shit out of us - jobs taken just to keep the bread on the table and a roof over our heads, too exhausted at the end of the day to do anything truly creative. MM, i have to agree w/ you. But who will take the mundane jobs that nobody wants? We still need janitors, even in an ideal world. Would the boring/unwanted jobs get distributed among the masses? everybody does their share, etc? What system could be utilized so that the dirty jobs that are so vital to society get accomplished? knot

But it seems to me that by the time you get done slogging through the crap that most people don't have much time to do a craft. Or that the crap at the bottom is disportionate to the crap at the top. If you have the cash you can hire people to do all your stuff and just do your thing. I don't know I just don't see people who don't have to doin their own dirty work.

I can understand where you're coming from on this Jupiter. America being the strongest and wealthiest nation it would seem that we could all be elevated to a position where we weren't having to work for minimum wage and stay at the bottom of the pile for an entire lifetime. It is hard to begin to imagine what it must be like for the workers in other countries that we are now outsourcing to. It would seem apparent that the approach we are taking to managing our resources - people - needs a complete overhaul and that until we do that we are stuck with the ever shrinking middle class into the lower class. Chores are not crafts. If we all did our own chores we would not need chars cleaning up after us.. .... out of the mundane chore and the increasing frustration of doing them comes the determination to rise to the top

i am non-american.
all u.s. individuals i have met on either side of the atlantic were most interesting - and interested - folks, to talk with and even work for.
seemed easy to bring out the best in them.
as a "collective" (society, "melting pot") america has become harder to understand, her history a mix of hope, good intent and brutal enforcement.
no judgment, i share the european heritage with you. i sure wish there had been more and better chances to meet in-depth rather than these superficial exchanges on politics, economy and business as ususal.
whatever media reports and literature, music and lifestyles convey, there should be another kind of interest in each other, at home or abroad. imho.
