The only half-way rational reason for filing a patent is that it supports an artiifcial capitalist-based economic philosophy. Other than that it violates every moral law and ethical principle that humanity stands for and as such confounds basic common sense.
For starters:
Unconditional sharing, beyond the natural mother/infant bond is the original revelation of consciousness that separated our specie from all other animals, and as such is the foundation stone of our evolving genius.
Meticulous sharing remains the fundamental behavioral ethic that defines family values. Any violation of that principle at this basic societal level is what causes families and extended families to break up and nations to eventually collapse.
Every human advance in any area is based on the combined contributions to the commonwealth by the evolving genius and effort of the thousands of generations that precede it.
Thus all that is man-made is, by the commonalty of our ancestral contributions, the communal property of all living decendants.
Freely sharing ideas promotes general goodwill, wider input, cuts red tape; legal disputes and benefits the widest population.
From this evolutionary perspective for any one person or organization to claim exclusive propriety to any new idea is both presumtuous and immoral.
I dispute any claim that a patentless society will throttle indvidual creativity, under-mine our competitve spirit and leave us with lower living standards.
