I think this thread is best catagorized here. Move me if I'm wrong!
Okay, lately I've been watching a lot of dance shows so its led me to start thinking about it. For me I've always felt dancing was a sacred beautiful thing, whether it be solo or a couple. Like a sacred ritual of a soul expressing itself, using the body to reveal its every facet. And when two people really dance together its like two souls are released to finally face each other without the barriers of the mind.
Dance has been around for ages and in plenty of the species. Birds have mating dances and if anyone has seen snakes.... Its beautiful. But man has used dancing for more than just a mating ritual. It was used in ceromonies for the gods, weddings, funerals, and I believe there's a Native American ritual where a girl must dance through the night to make her passage into womanhood. But the basic idea is that dance has been some spiritual rite, performed in whatever way.
But now, it seems as if its lost that sacredness to many people. Clubs are all the rave now and all the kids do is, well, bump and grind. Its lost that beauty, that sacredness, to the general public. I'm not saying that its all just gross any more, to the contrary I've seen beautiful dance in all the different styles. It just seems its not the beautiful sacred ritual it once was.
Am I just old fashioned, unwilling to let go of the way things used to be? Or is it a different ritual, still spiritual, just more sexually so?
Just curious on what your guys' thoughts might be.
Peace,
TD
