Cool new building design in the works for South London. They call it Castle House. A residential tower project, it is being advertised as not only being an eco-machine, but will generate its own power on site through a series of wind turbines and a heat and power plant. It involves the construction of two buildings - a 43-story building with three 9-meter diameter wind turbines at the top, and an adjacent 5-story pavilion building When finished, the Castle House will have 310 apartments and retail units on the ground level, with completion projected for 2009. I like the idea of it... instead of the usual skyscraper method of designing them to be aero-dynamic to withstand and deflect the wind, maybe you can also harness it. I wonder how well it will work.

Pretty wicked. Just imagine those everywhere, big buildings looking like they're waiting to take flight. Uh, that's actually kinda scary too. One of them flying off and "Oh my god! We're all gonna die!" Sorry, first thing that popped into my head when I saw them. Okay, to be serious though. Sounds like a pretty steep investment. How much are the apartments going to cost? Like will they be affordable for the average joe or just for the rich?

Thats really spacey cool. Though I still kind of have a beef with sky scrapers, I would sad to see old county house with the red barn on the side become completely extinct, ya know? I know thats impractical and nostalgic, and that in this day and age with the population growing so rapidly it's no longer practical for every family to have a sprawling piece of land and a big ol' house. Things must become more industrialized. ahhh, but cool idea anyways, ignore my rambling...

Wow that is sexy! I would love to live in one of those.
Look at this way Glacier you could always go to the museum that looks like the little red house surrounded by a beuatiful big park. Animals could live naturally etc.
Something this spacey would have to incorporate a natural environment as well with waterfalls and gardens. I don't think the human form can be healthy without the sound of a bubbling brook or a chirping bird.
But his kind of forward thinking is where we have to go to have any hope of relieving the planet from the burden of humanity.

I don't think the human form can be healthy without the sound of a bubbling brook or a chirping bird. I agree with you here. Just can't see us living in metal walls without ever that touch in our lives. I know some of me happiest times is sitting outside in the evening listening to the wind in the trees and da birds chirpin'. But his kind of forward thinking is where we have to go to have any hope of relieving the planet from the burden of humanity. I wonder if anyone else are making building's like these or building this one in other places as well.

Yeah, but like Piper was saying, the human race has to stay in touch with it's roots (hehe, literally) no matter how many advances, leaps and bounds, are made in technology. This sounds corny, but I think that the pure spirit of the earth must be preserved.

This sounds corny, but I think that the pure spirit of the earth must be preserved. I don't think we'll, like, cover the globe in buildings. God help us if we do. I mean, we couldn't cause we need a food source, but besides that needed space, I don't think we'll cover the rest. Am I making sense? Probably not. But I mean, if we have all these effecient houses, what would be the need to be spread out anymore? What would the world be like if it was just cities and then empty wilderness? But... that's off topic. My happy place. ;D
