The Greeks, the founders of modern-day (Western) philosophy, defined the term "philosophy" as the "love of wisdom". Therefore the philosopher is one who loves wisdom. But what is love? And what is wisdom? These two derived questions (of philosophy) signify that philosophy exists as a mystery built upon two separate underlying mysteries...what, or who, is loving and wise?
Loving. Wise. What does this remind you of?
All-loving. All-wise. Who does this remind you of?
The philosopher is a man who walks in the footsteps of God...God as the "idealized man". He is a man who seeks to know things, about himself, and thus, about the Entire Universe. Because in terms of Essence there is no difference nor separation between the two: myself & universe. All things are comprised of "matter". Even in the words I type now I am describing or exemplifying nothing more than myself. Because I cannot produce anything other than myself, including my words, and especially-including my actions.
As with all things, and all other things, Necessity is the mother of Invention. The Philosophical Man comes into social existence only when there is a pressing need for him to appear. And such men, philosophers, do not expose themselves throughout every common lifetime. Instead, they come and go, once in a lifetime. Whole Ages & Epochs can pass without the appearance of a Philosopher, because Philosophers are not always-needed. It is only during a certain time, of a society, that the society calls upon a philosopher to fulfill his duty. He is called upon to 1) recall the past, 2) accentuate the present, and 3) create the future. He is a man of vision, imagination, and insight...into his own specie. If a philosopher is human then he will exist to advance human endeavors. If a philosopher is post-human then he will exist to advance post-human endeavors. The philosophers primary concern is his own Identity as an individual, on top of, his collective Identity as a social person.
No man exists in isolation because no man can escape his dreams...or nightmares.
Love is a feminine domain. And for a man to love demonstrates his femininity, or in other words, his weakness. If man is weak to the sexual and carnal nature of woman, for example, then this man can be controlled by any other. Whereas the man who knows no such attraction, toward anything, in a sexual manner-of-speaking, is no longer bound by his nature as a man...to become weak to another. The only way to threaten any man is not to threaten his immediate-life because, at heart, men do not care so much for their own existence except where their own existence is owed to another. Restated: a man is nothing when isolated. So does this rule apply to woman, a child, and all things. When isolated, there disappears all social worth. In this way, a man owes his life to the tribe from whence he originated. He owes his blood to the ground. He owes his soul to his mother & father.
Love is a connective thing, a connective force.
Wisdom is both a feminine domain and a masculine domain. Men & Women both are wise in their own way. Men are wise when it comes to male-competition, logic, and war. Women are wise when it comes to female-competition, emotions, and seduction. When a good man and a good woman are put together, then these two equal parts form a complete puzzle, as a relationship. One man and woman, together, can repopulate the entire human specie! This is the deepest sense of meaning...stored within the genetic memory of each human animal is the "code for survival". To be wise merely-is to demonstrate what a philosopher knows of this "code". It is Human Knowledge. So know thyself.
Wisdom is the thing-of-self, self-identity.
The Philosopher is loving and wise, but balanced between cruelty and mercy. His fatherly-hand must be soft to cull his children, and hard to punish them for wickedness. He must be willing to exercise his fatherly-rites, to exile and murder his own wife & children, should they disobey him. And this is what mortal men know of "God". But how is God cruel, as a Father? Who knows the struggle of man, except man? Who knows the pain required to be willing to kill that which you love because you love it? Who is willing to sacrifice their first-born son...for an ideal?
The Philosopher is an Author to such ideals...
