SUPERSTITIOUS GUIDANCE
Prelude
We evoked the intuitive source
of superstition
in all of our children
after weaning
at around age 3
saw it governing their good behavior
by age seven
and reverentially accepted by the analytical side of the cortex
before each underwent the rites of puberty
Three of them
since then
accepted the precepts of adulthood
by taking formal possession
of a symbolic gold key
on their birthday
at age 21
All of them affirm
that superstition will guide them
and their fortunes
till death
even as they employ the tools of science
and help to extend our range of knowledge
beyond the atom
As superstitious scientists
I see them as meta-physicians
maha scientists
if you will
Each is now in the era
of their most creative expressions
only one has chosen to specialize
so far
the other three
want to remain open
to all options
in short
they are not looking for teachers
other than here
right at home
learning to steward the family estate
with the internet at hand
I cannot wait to meet them
at their menopause
and see the first hint of grey
