Some thirty years ago
I spent nine months in contemplation
living in a cave in the Gulf of Siam
here is a collection of thoughts from that period
the glory of Truth
when seen
is instantly known
the mystique
lies in the realization
that it was always known
the sage must choose his words with care
the truth is razor sharp
children cannot play with it
umpteen degrees is science and logic
do not equal one degree of inner knowledge
the cycle of suffering
is not a vicious circle
it is a quickening spiral
traveling in or out
the ground of being remains constant
The Golden Rule
is the base and purpose
of all great Scriptures
Neither Hell nor Heaven
is everlasting
but ever changing
The devil is God
in a black hat
The fundamental attitude of the teacher
is to assume the responsibility of an awakener
the pupil
in reality
is aware of the same truth
but has fallen asleep
the journey towards an ordered heaven
lies through the chaos of hell
to arrive directly
without traversing the labyrinth
defeats the objective of creation
Hell is not all fire and brimstone
there are icy fields of hopelessness
as well
there can be no hell so deep
where all hope is dead
the paradox of religious belief:
God is perfect
heaven is without defilement
yet there can be no God
without a devil
and hell is a cesspit
truth therefore
must lie beyond God and devil
in a place beyond heaven and hell
how then to live
religiously
without a defined goal?
The Tao of the Bhakti (Lover) and the Jnani (Intellectual)
Fundamentally there is no difference
in the approach to the truth
by the heart
or through the mind
Graced by the Divine Presence
both heart and mind burst open with the joy
of love and revelation
the ecstatic bhakti
and the realized jnani
see the same inter-related Truth in all its glory
Truth is Love
Love is Truth
on the path
God responds to the bhakti
in direct proportion
to the sincerity of yearning for unification
He fulfills the the needs of the jnani
in direct proportion to the intensity and clarity
of the inquiry
thus faith of the heart is nourished
and wisdom of the intellect is deepened
though the heart (religion) and the mind (science)
may be in conflict during the journey
the difference is no more
than that between the twig and leaf
the sap of One Truth
flows through both
