Every human being alive today is the end product of a 3 billion year long evolutionary process
that is based on the survival of the fittest - which in turn is founded on natural mate selection.
At a fundamental level, physically, emotionally and intellectually, each and every one of us are the fittest of the fit
Up until five generations ago mate selection among societies of Iron Age industrial craftsmen was accomplished via ancient extended family customs that were established and laid down earlier - during the Bronze Age when clan totems and the clan name and clan alliances and the right bride price determined whom should marry who.
During those earlier eras of social development when divorce was totally taboo, a disgrace to the clan name, marriage arrangements were made in the best interests of the extended family, mated pairs were able to father and mother healthy off-spring in the security of home and hearth with the minimum of emotional dysfunction. Like their parents they grew up to accept their prospective mates via a consensus of family-based arrangements. Teenage infatuations were recognized as temporary stages in mature development. Three year non-promiscuous courtships helped to ensure compatible marriages involving all the responsibilities of family and estate management . The concept of individual pairs independently engaging in life-long "love matches" was totally alien - the invention of late Iron Age developments in script-based academic education and the awakening of romantic imaginations in a newly excited intellect.
Some five generations ago the onset of the Industrial Revolution initiated the break-up of traditional family values. The security of wages on the mass production lines drew the artisan from his traditional craft and away from the home for much of each day. Migration away from traditional neighborhoods in search of production line jobs, broke up extended family relations. Thus was not only the creative art of the craftsman gradually lost to production line automation, but so too was the natural art of fathering. Eventually the growing administrative needs of mass production drew the mother from the home as well to work in the business office. Thus the art of mothering suffered. Babes were dumped in nurseries and kids incarcerated in state run classrooms. Thrust together in business arrangements, clandestine office-romances took place. Deception, adultery and divorce became the order of the day. And so it was that the ancient culture and stability of family and extended-family values became increasingly distended and dysfunctional.
and so it is today that almost all modern humans born today are the product of broken family values with dysfunctional pairs engaging in immature "love-matches" that largely end up in divorce a few years down the line - and thereby exponentially adding even more dysfunctional pairs into the social mating mix.
So
how do we fix it?
