The creation/evolution discussion, which encompasses so many of the social and scientific dsiplines that contribute to the accumulated knowledge about ourselves and the planet we live on - is perhaps the most comprehensive single criteria for measuring the depth and quality of national education systems Depsite all the evidence presents by the genetic sciences, a recent survey has revealed that only 40% of Americans acccept that humans are the result of evolutionary factors. Turkey is the only other "developed" nation lower than us. Iceland with more than 80% of the population refuting the creation argument, seems to be the most enlightened society on the planet. The idea that the world is being led by its dimmest nation bothers me sorely.

Iceland is #1. I'm not embarrased to say it. The netherlands are up there too.
America needs to change it's overall ways of thinking. We are going nowhere fast.

With that kind of statistic, one wonders how we can be a 1st world country… I think (and am not the first) that America is two countries, both on two completely different wavelengths. How we’ve managed to function for this long, if you think about it, is really surprising. The differences are clear: Union/Confederacy or urban/rural or Democrat/Republican or Liberal/Conservative or moderate/extreme religious beliefs, we’ve been separate for hundreds of years. I know every country has people on both ends of the coin but nowhere else does it seem to be more clearly evident than here. I suppose the variety is what’s made us such a strong country, but it appear that that era has past and it’s time we start cooperating and unifying… And hopefully we all will agree that we’re or were primates… Also, do you think it was ever fair to claim to be the leader of the free or western world if for so long we’ve separated ourselves from the other western nations? I may be wrong but cooperation never seemed to be America’s strong point, and this war in Iraq just seems to be the nail in the coffin. Who knows how long before we’re again viewed with any respect by Europe? This isn’t including the middle-east and many other cultures we’ve interfered with negatively. I would surmise that resent against America may be thicker than any one person could fathom… I'd seriously protest against anyone saying America wasn't really dim... By the way, this is all said with love ;D… Thoughts?

I wouldn't be embarrassed, they are quite a sophisticated culture and peaceful (I think)… Let's not forget that they've legalized recreational drug use ;D ... Shhhh... (don't talk about that).

America actually applies to The United States and Canada, Centeral America is Mexico and the small countries below. The Southern American contenent is called South America. So, America is a general term- the United States is more accurate.
We need to be emulated, but first, we must emulate iceland if they got it right. Repeating "We're #1" over and over isn't going to make it true. Too many of us live in a false reality, and the media doesn't help.

The U.S. has been so full of itself, and are too censored to see that the truth is not so simple. Camaraderie and more openness to other nations is what we really need. We need world news in the mainstream media, and broader lines of thinking… All cultures need to be seen through bi-partisan eyes, and good ideas need to be integrated and bad ideas need to be voted off the table… Ok… I’m done… ;D
